Boston Vs. Sonora

I have been living in Boston since 2017, I am from a small city in Sonora Mexico. Massachusetts is completely different than my hometown, but i have learned to adapt.


  • Restaurants

    Restaurants in Boston are more formal and expensive than in my city. 
    Many people from other countries live in Boston, so the variety of food at the restaurants is greater than in my hometown. 

    • Healthy food 

    In Sonora the food is fresher than Massachusetts.
    Organic and healthy food in Sonora is more accessible while in Massachusetts this food is more expensive. 

    • Weather
     

    Seasons in Massachusetts are beautiful, but the winter is very cold.
    The beaches in Sonora are hot, while the water at Boston's beaches is much colder.


    • Infrastructure 

    Boston is more modern than my city. Boston has more buildings and infrastructure while Sonora is a rural state.

    • Safety/cleanliness

    The streets feel safer here compared to my city.
    Boston streets look cleaner but the air in my hometown is cleaner than Boston. 

    • Housing/apartments

      Rent in Boston is more expensive than my city. 
      In my hometown, it is easier to buy a house and pay a mortgage. Most people in Sonora own their homes, which is different from life in Boston.
      My apartment here is smaller than my home in Sonora. 

      • Food
      The traditional food here is different from my hometown. The food is not as spicy as food in my country.  
      The seafood in Boston is delicious but in my country ,it is spectacular.

I always dream to have my house in Mexico.  I choose this location because is near to my family in Mexico; just 1 hour and half and they can enjoy the house too.         How to prepare for a winter storm  Being prepared for a winter storm in Massachusetts can be hard especially when it is your first time. Follow these tips to stay warm.  -Buy clothes. You need to have a very warm jacket, boots, thermal underwear, beanie, scarf. Do not forget your gloves. -Buy Supplies. Keep enough food and water in your home in case you need to stay home for days. Keep board games, movies, books etc. to stay entertained. -Prepare your home.  Prepare your home pipes, check to make sure your heating is working. -Prepare your vehicle Check your tires, heating system, windshield wipers. -Be safe  If you do not need to go outside, stay warm and safe at home.

      In 2030

      Where I see myself in 5 years  In my personal life in 5 years, I might have a family and a beautiful house, I would like to have two children with my husband and a safe, stable and happy life. I will be working in a company where I can use my skills. I would like to have a job where I can use my administration or accountable knowledge. I will be fluent in English and I expected to have a great job. Right now I do not what kind a job I want because I feel nervous and uncomfortable with my English but it is a fear that I will handle with the years. I think I can have a better job in 5 years because I am working hard to learn English and be fluently.
